Introduction to the Feasts for Gentile Christians
Why is it important to study the Feasts of the Lord? One reason would be to understand many details involved with the redemption of mankind.
After Passover (the offering of The Messiah as korban pesach the offering of the lamb) , and the Feast of the Omer (the resurrection of The Messiah) Jesus met two men on the road to Emmaus and He opened their understanding about Himself from the hrwt, Myaybn, Mybwtk – The law, the Prophets, and the Writings.
Luke 24:13-27 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Emmaus is a small village sixty furlongs or 36,000 feet (about 6.64 miles, 10.68604 KM) north west of the old city of Jerusalem
The following photograph is the complete set of Scrolls that make up the Hebrew Scriptures commonly called the Old Testament. These are the Scrolls Jesus was referring to when He explained to the two men on the road to Emmaus.
(Note: A Jewish Scribe recently said “Jews absolutely hate it when these books are referred to as the Old Testament”. That is a shame as within these Scrolls in Jeremiah 31:31-33 God says:
הנה ימים באים נאם יהוה וכרתי את בית ישׂראל ואת בית יהודה ברית חדשׁה
לא כברית אשׁר כרתי את אבותם ביום החזיקי בידם להוציאם מארץ מצרים אשׁר המה הפרו את בריתי ואנכי בעלתי בם נאם יהוה
“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”)
The Scroll in the following photograph is called the Torah. It is from Vilnius, Lithuania written about 250 years ago. The Torah contains the following books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. These are the words God spoke to Moses about 3,500 years ago.
The following photograph is from a Torah Scroll written in Vilnius, Lithuania. The passage of Scripture is as follows:
Genesis 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Jesus said the following in John 4:21-26 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
All people, from all time, nations, and tongues must come to the Hebrew Scripture to translate the Word of God into their languages. This is what we are going to examine as we study the Feasts of the Lord.
The web site on Leviticus 23 “The Feasts of the Lord” has been translated into three languages: English, Chinese, and Russian.
The chart listing the feasts in a chronological order helps make them more understandable. For example, many Christians have difficulty trying to decide when the rapture of the church will take place. If you use this chart it is a simple matter to observe that the Feast of Trumpets comes before the Feast of Atonement. Also observing the chart with each accompanying lesson will show the simplicity of these feasts in light of the New Testament.
In understanding Biblical types, many times it is tempting try to make every type and detail refers to the blood of Christ. As we examine these feasts we can see that they all do involve Christ, but they go into more detail than the Crucifixion, burial and resurrection. Perhaps this is what the writer of Hebrews meant when he said what he did in chapter five verses eleven through chapter six verse three.
Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. Hebrews 5:11-6:3
The following chart shows the months each feast takes place in. The first month is Nissan where the feast of Passover begins the yearly cycle.
This series of lessons on Leviticus 23 are an explanation of Old Testament prophecies concerning the redemption of mankind. When Jesus met the two travelers on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection, what book did He use to explain Himself; Matthew, Luke, Romans? These were not written at that time. It was centuries before each church had a complete New Testament. Jesus used the Old Testament, as it is written in Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.“
These lessons are designed for the PowerPoint program with many slides to help facilitate an understanding of these important events. The PowerPoint lessons are complete in three languages; English, Russian and Chinese. Professional translators have been used on the Russian and Chinese lessons . There are a total of over 1,200 slides with the complete series of seven lessons.

1. Passover – God gives us knowledge of our lost condition. We all sin and are separated from God so He shows us the separation by revealing our sin and then gives us forgiveness for all sin.
Repentance
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Forgiveness
John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
3. Weeks – God gives each of us a talent or gift to serve Him in a way that is best for our ability. He could take us on to Heaven the moment we are “born again” but He usually leaves us here to finish His work. Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
6. Tabernacles – God gives us crowns
There are five heavenly crowns mentioned in the New Testament that will be awarded to believers.
1. The Incorruptible Crown: 1 Cor. 9:24,25. This crown is given to believers who faithfully run the race,
2. The Crown of Rejoicing: 1 Thessalonians 2:19, 20. & Daniel 12:3 To those who faithfully witness to the saving grace of God,
3. The Crown of Righteousness: 2 Timothy 4:8 To those who love the appearing of Christ, who anxiously wait and look forward to the day when He will return for His saints.,
4. The Crown of Life: James 1:12. For those believers who endure trials, tribulations, and severe suffering,
5. The Crown of Glory: 1 Pet. 5:1~4. This is the teacher’s crown and will be given to the ministers who faithfully feed the flock of God. This probably could also include preachers, teachers, Sunday School teachers, missionaries and all those who teach the Word of God in their respective ministries.
One of the sets of three feasts has already been fulfilled to every detail and is quite easy to understand: Passover, First Fruits, Weeks.
The other set of three feasts is still in the future and is a little more difficult to see how the details will happen. In the last three feasts there is room for speculation and separation from another believer on details should be used with caution.
In the study of these six feasts some Bible scholars refer to Leviticus 23 as “God’s Calendar” because it follows the yearly cycle of harvests in Israel and is in chronological order. Most likely cultures throughout the world built calendars of stone to help with the planting and harvest seasons.
The Jewish calendar has changed many times and unless the Bible is used as the guide, it is just people’s opinion. After 586 BC the Talmud adopted the Babylonian names for the months: e.g., Aviv to Nissan, Etham to Tishrei. 1 Kings 8: 1, 2 “And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.” Since 586 BC we know this month by the name Tishrei.
“The first written Jewish calendar was compiled by Hillel II in 359 C.E.” and he codified 1 Tishrei as the beginning of the year, hnsh sar Rosh Hashanah. This obscure feast of the seventh month then became a marker of great religious importance. (Note: The study of the Jewish calendar is so vast and confusing it is generally incomprehensible, because the “sages” deviated from the Torah to the Talmud.) It is important to know this because a Biblical study of this feast will not lead you to believe that this feast of the first day of the seventh month is Rosh Hashanah hnsh sar. That name is reserved for another month. The following is what the Creator told us about New Year hnsh sar Rosh Hashanah Exodus 12:2
החדשׁ הזה לכם ראשׁ חדשׁים ראשׁון הוא לכם לחדשׁי השׁנה
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
The Creator
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: Genesis 1:14
ויאמר אלהים יהי מארת ברקיע השׁמים להבדיל בין היום ובין הלילה והיו לאתת ולמועדים ולימים ושׁנים׃
It is reasonable to believe that the one who created all things would give us a guide book on how things work.
The “world” can’t seem to tell where the New Year begins. That’s easy. It as as God said, the first of the Hebrew month Nissan.
